Why I Became a Lawyer

Our society is structured in a way where good, honest, hard-working people often find themselves faced with a problem or conflict situation. I became a lawyer because I am passionate about helping people solve problems and deal with conflict situations. I find no greater reward than knowing my efforts helped a person resolve the issues that caused them stress and pressure.

Personal Background

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois and was an undergraduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine where I studied economics and government. I graduated with honors from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. During law school, I was a member of the mock trial team and obtained certificates in Advocacy and Business Law. I also clerked for a general civil litigation firm.

Prior to law school, I managed an insurance agency and finance company. That experience gave me the insight needed to effectively help business owners. I also acted as lead project manager for several residential remodels and the build-out of a 14,000 square foot commercial property that included a restaurant and bar. Those experiences gave me the background to help people with real estate issues and contract disputes.

I was the Olmsted County Law Librarian before becoming a part of the Ryan & Grinde legal team. That experience gave me a background in family, criminal, probate, and landlord-tenant law.

My wife, Angie, and I have one daughter, Lily. We moved to Rochester in 2009. I spend my free time enjoying the outdoors and playing hockey and golf.
